Parents are advised to prepare their child for a stay in hospital by explaining to them truthfully what will happen.
|
Take along your child’s favourite toys and books and ask the nursing staff about visiting arrangements for other members of the family to allay the child’s feelings of isolation. Rooming-in facilities are provided for parents who wish to remain with their child. The staff will be able to advise of these arrangements.
Facilities are also available to accommodate a baby of a mother admitted to the hospital when the baby is breastfed and not crawling or walking.
Most small children miss their families so we encourage immediate family to spend as much time as possible with their child. You can play a positive role during your child’s stay in hospital by assisting with various routines and by just being with your child.
Certain restrictions may be necessary so that the nurse can effectively carry out treatment prescribed by the doctor. Your co-operation is appreciated in these circumstances.
